Windows.

Reset your Lenovo Computer with Windows 8

If you have try Recover Lenovo One Key Rescue after Resizing Partitions and may boot to OneKey Recovery, you shall be able to boot to OneKey Recovery to reinstall to factory default.

But as Steve mentioned in Super User: Lenovo One-Key Recovery Feature broken after resizing partition, you may also follow the [Remove everything and reinstall Windows] in How to refresh, reset, or restore your PC. It’s not free, you need to have a Windows RE Flash Drive and have access to PBR_DRV partition.

What’s in PBR_DRV Partition

You may use GParted and mount PBR_DRV with Linux command in terminal.

-o ro to mount as read only.
Replace /dev/sda8 with your PBR_DRV partition.

You will see three folders [OKRBackup], [onekey], and [System Volume Information] in PBR_DRV partition. The key is the [Factory] folder in [OKRBackup] as below. They are the factory disk images.

How to use PBR_DRV to Reset to Factory

You need to have access factory disk images in PRB_DRV to launch [create a recovery drive] with [Copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recovery drive] in [Recovery] in Windows 8 Control Panel. With this drive, you shall be able to reset your PC.

If you create recovery drive without [Copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recovery drive], you must have access to PBR_DRV partition or Windows RE won’t be able to read the disk image in it.

More Thoughts

If you cannot access PBR_DRV, please reference Recover Lenovo One Key Rescue after Resizing Partitions to fix your partition ID.

The info.ini configuration file in folder OKRBackup/Factory helps Windows to identify the original partition. Here is the content for my Lenovo C440. It helps to match partition image which has okr and wim extensions as mentioned in above section with partition name.

Dear Aizaz Ahmad,

It seems your partition type ID is wrong. You may read Recover Lenovo One Key Rescue after Resizing Partitions to manually change your partition type ID. Then follow the instruction here to reset your Windows to factory default if you want to roll back to original.

Remember to backup your data before changing partition type id or resetting windows.

Have a nice day!

If you are not sure what to do, don’t do it. This is a little bit technical. Get your friends to help. Every model might be different. You need some background of Windows commands and partitions.

Also, you should use LIST VOLUME to check the partition label to identify PBR_DRV partition. When you may access it, you may do a Windows reset as mentioned in this post to help you restore to factory default.

BTW, I don’t like you use “I want you to” in your comments. I do not work for you.

Have a nice day!

Dear Amigo,
A friend of mine has a lenovo g580 laptop and recently she went to a PC technician because it had a boot matter and finally he formated the hdd without keeping backup file. He didn’t disabled secure boot, and as a result when my friend brought it to me to check it out I noticed that the partitions was not OK. Also I couldn’t get into BIOS because secure boot is enabled. When I push the OKR button it opens the menu for choosing NORMAL STARTUP, BIOS SETUP, BOOT MENU, START RECOVERY but nothing works. I removed the drive and I connected to my pc through a usb external adapter to see the condition of the drive. From 500Gb the 465 was unallocated and the rest was hidden as mentioned. I used Drive Rescue to search for partitions and volumes and now it shows WINRE_DRV volume of 999Mb, 418Gb free space, LRS_ESP 996Mb, Boot 3.01Mb, LENOVO 24.9Gb, PBR_DRV 19.9Gb. Now it start with LOADING files… and then show Lenovo logo. After that pop up a message saying that One Key recovery partition is in bad something bla bla.. I checked your posts and drago too so I saw the info.ini file and is:

Can you please guide me to resolve the boot and recover problem?
Thank you in advance.

When I push the OKR button it opens the menu for choosing NORMAL STARTUP,
BIOS SETUP, BOOT MENU, START RECOVERY but nothing works.

From your detail description, I think the OKR partition has some issue therefore refused to launch. But your case might be more complex because it has been formatted and secure boot is enabled.

I think if you may access PBR_DRV partitions, you may try to boot with a Windows RE flash and reset Windows. It will read image files from PBR_DRV partitions and restore to factory default. Every partition will be recreated as factory default.

Because you can access PBR_DRV parition, I think you may ignore my another post Recover Lenovo One Key Rescue after Resizing Partitions and focus on restoring to factory default.

I forgot!!
I checked also PBR_DRV\OKRBackup\Factory folder. It has Boot.okr, Info.ini, install.wim, LrsEsp.okr, MBR.okr, md5.sum, Winre.okr ……. but it doesn’t have $PBR_Diskpart.txt, $PBR_ResetConfig.xml as you mention above.

I am not sure why you don’t have $PBR_Diskpart.txt and $PBR_ResetConfig.xml in /OKRBackup/Factory folder. According to the files created date, I think it is generated automatically when I reset my Windows. If you may reset Windows correctly, just forget these two files.

Have a nice day!

Hi. My lenovo shows a pop up message with title “TIP”, says “One Key Recovery partition has damaged, so do not launch main application.” and has one OK button. Can’t boot neither in Windows nor BIOS

When OKR fail to access partitions correctly, it fails to execute your commands. Usually it is related to partition type ID issue. The easiest way is to backup your data and reset your Windows to factory default as mentioned in this post.

I used to have the same issue to launch OKR from Windows. Problem solved by resetting Windows with a Windows RE flash and accessible PBR_DRV partition.

Hi, I have Lenovo Y510P, I installed 128 GB ssd for windows partition. I created a GPT based primary partition on it. Then I start OKR and wanted to recover windows on SSD’s partition, but every time it selects HDD’s partition. So,
How do I configure OKR so that it will detect SSD’s partition instead of HDD’s partition for windows installation through recovery?

I read the article and all comment, but none found relevant to above question.
Kindly, Help

I have use OKR to backup to assigned partition and restore from it but not factory recovery images.

If you just want to move Windows 8 from HDD to SSD, boot with your original HDD and create a recovery flash drive in windows as mentioned in Create a USB recovery drive. Then swap your HDD with SSD. Boot from your recovery flash drive and reset to factory default.

I don’t use OKR for system transfer.

Hello, I had to make a dispart clean to my HDD so I have nothing, how do I create partition for OneKey and everything for Lenovo S 400 that came with windows 8? Thanks for your help, I have the names and sizes of the partititions before the cleaning but not the id’s.

If you may still boot to windows 8, the easiest way is to reset your Windows to recreate OKR and everything comes with your S400.

If you preferred to manually change partition ID, Recover Lenovo One Key Rescue after Resizing Partitions explains the everything.

when I tried to recover my computer, OKR gave an error saying that partiton is incorrect and needs to be recreated. I tried to format window partition but it didnt work,

Later I followed the instructions on this link http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/how-to-restore-onekey-recovery-function-after-changing-partition-size-y580-and-maybe-others.688883/ in the end this deleted my install.wim I guess, because this time when I tried to recover, OKR tells me that no back up file to recover.

PBR_DRV partiton still exist but total file size is 400 mb. How can I fix this please help. Is there any way to put windows back up file to PBR_DRV again. ?
